There is nothing like starting your morning off with a good cup of coffee from your favorite café. Luckily, Westchester and El Segundo are full of great places to fulfill any coffee lover’s needs. Here are some of my favorites.
Personal favorite: Iced Vanilla Chai with a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Croissant
I had to let you know about Tanner’s right off the bat because it is an LMU student favorite. Besides having great coffee, you will almost always run into a smiling face of someone you know. The beach-themed shop and the friendly staff will help you start your morning the right way. Another great thing about it is that it is right on the beach. After I grab my coffee, I can make the short stroll to the sand down the street and dip my toes in the water before I start my day.
Personal favorite: Iced Ancient Mayan with a Blueberry Muffin
Coffee Connection is one of my favorites because of its great atmosphere. They have great outdoor seating, beautiful architecture and plenty of greenery, making it the perfect study spot. Coffee Connection has a lot of good food options too, like empanadas, sandwiches and salads, but I like to keep it simple with a blueberry muffin. After that, I like to grab a chair, set up my laptop and get to work. Their stunning outdoor seating makes it the perfect spot to get your schoolwork done.
3. Philz Coffee
Personal favorite: Philtered Soul Cold Brew and a Jalapeño Cheese Bagel
Philz isn’t exclusive to El Segundo, but it is one of my favorite coffee shops in all of California. The nearest one is a little bit of a drive from campus (about 15 minutes), but any coffee lover will be satisfied with their trip. Philz has grown quite a reputation in the past few years and is known for its unique drinks like the Mint Mojito and the Gingersnap. They have several locations in our area, like in Santa Monica and Studio City, but I prefer the El Segundo location because it is usually less crowded and is closer to campus.
Personal favorite: Iced Mocha with a Breakfast Sandwich
Right in Downtown El Segundo is Blue Butterfly Coffee Co. This is a place that you will want to go if you have a little more time to spare, because they have great coffee and amazing meals for breakfast. The shop itself gets a little crowded, so i like to eat my food across the street. I said that the breakfast sandwich was my favorite, but you can’t go wrong with anything on their breakfast menu. Some of my other favorites include the breakfast quesadilla and the breakfast burrito.
Personal favorite: Iced Cappuccino with an Egg + Cheese + Bacon Breakfast Sandwich
Everyone loves The Coffee Company, but not everyone has time to sit down and enjoy a dine-in experience. This is why one of my favorite things about this particular restaurant is their to-go bar. Once you walk into the front door, don’t stop at the host stand. Keep walking towards the smaller counter behind it to find the to-go bar where they have special menu items and a short line. You can also order anything from the regular menu too, making it the best option for those concerned with social distancing or those who are just in a little more of a rush.
