The Alpha Delta Gamma fraternity and alumni are hosting its first “Tanked for the Troops” event to raise awareness and support for the Wounded Warriors Project. The fundraiser will take place from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30. The event is meant to raise awareness and support for the WWP. Tucker Max, the New York Times bestselling author, will be in attendance along with cast members from his upcoming movie “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.”

“[The event is] just us trying to raise money for a good cause; there is no better cause than helping the troops,” said Robert Montenegro, president of ADG. “Our big goal here is to encourage people to put forth their resources to a good cause, and it helps that they get a little fun on the side. Our motto this semester is ‘Have your pie and eat it too.’”

The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization that supports war veterans and is currently assisting soldiers who have been hurt in Iraq and Afghanistan. The WWP prides itself on its service to veterans by providing them aid and other services and raising support from the public. Through this project, veterans can also participate by aiding other fellow veterans.

“The Wounded Warrior Project is my favorite charity, and luckily all of ADG feels the same way. They support severely wounded troops upon their return from combat overseas,” said alumnus Greg Dunaway. “In my mind there is no better way to show your appreciation for the selfless dedication our armed forces show us than to support those of them who are most in need of our help.”

This event promises to be different than other philanthropy events that have preceded it.

“We’re lucky enough to have connections with people like Tucker Max who have generously offered to attend and support the event along with some of the cast and crew from his new movie. That alone should help raise awareness,” said Dunaway, who is the primary organizer of the event. “Also, we’re making an effort to include both students and alumni in this event — something that is usually sorely lacking in philanthropies.”

Tanked for the Troops will be held at The Lodge on West Manchester Avenue. Alcohol will be served at the event, so all participants must bring a valid I.D. and be 21 years or older. Tickets can be purchased prior to the event for $10, and $20 at the door. All proceeds will go to the WWP.

“Its going to be a great party and everything is going to a great cause. It’s sure to be the best place in town that night,” assured Montenegro.
