LMU LGBT Student Services (LGBTSS) kicked off the 2021 Labor Day weekend with a barbecue on O’Malley Grass on Friday, Sept. 3. Showcasing LGBTQ+ student organizations and resources, the event welcomed new and returning Lions to the Bluff.
Students were greeted with music, bubbles and conversation. Representatives from various LGBTQ+ student organizations assembled tables around the grass, inviting students to learn more about their causes.
Each table featured a different organization on campus that serves as a resource for the LGBTQ+ community. Student Psychological Services (SPS), William H. Hannon Library and other campus resources had representatives who explained more about their groups and ways to get involved.
The table set up on behalf of William H. Hannon Library allowed students to win prizes via a spin-the-wheel game, contributing to the positive atmosphere at the event. The SPS wellness educators' table provided pamphlets educating students about the importance of mental health and the availability of mental health resources on campus.
The event provided free food and drinks as students mingled and jotted down the resources available to them.
