Through LMU’s Chosen Name Project, a new tool has been added to Prowl allowing students to update their name, pronouns and gender identity. If students wish to make these changes, their chosen name will be reflected in most campus systems within 24 hours, including Brightspace, Degree Works, LEO, Handshake, Web CheckOut and AIM, according to LMU’s website. At the end of September, OneCard, Box, MyLMU, Campus Director, Teams and Zoom will also be added.
Students wishing to use a chosen name rather than a legal name can do so by logging into Prowl, clicking “New Personal Information Page” and clicking “Edit” under the “Personal Details” box. From there, students can type their name under the “Chosen Name” section. Prowl also allows students to update their religious affiliation, marital status, ethnicity and race.
“A name is so important to an individual’s identity and individuality,” said Campus Minister Jonas Bognar. To reflect this value, the Chosen Name Project is not only giving students a space to update their name within LMU systems, but also to compete in a chosen name acrostic poetry contest. The contest is to encourage students to reflect on the value of a name. All poems will be posted on the LMU website, and the top three poems will win prizes.
